Caron Engineering Showcases AutoComp: Closed-Loop Tool Offset Automation at IMTS 2026

Caron Engineering will feature AutoComp, its automated tool offset control software, at IMTS 2026 in Chicago, demonstrating how manufacturers can close the loop between measurement and machining to maintain part accuracy in real time.

AutoComp automatically processes measurement data from virtually any electronic gauging device—including CMMs, vision systems, laser measurement, and digital gauges—and applies the correct tool offset adjustments directly to the CNC control. By eliminating manual data entry, AutoComp removes a major source of variability while improving consistency across production.

Close the Loop Between Measurement & Machining

In traditional workflows, measurement data is often reviewed manually and applied inconsistently—introducing delays, errors, and process variation. AutoComp automates this entire process.

  • Read measurement data directly from gauging systems
  • Compare results to user-defined tolerances and compensation limits
  • Calculate precise tool offset adjustments
  • Automatically update the CNC control in real time

This closed-loop approach ensures that every measured part contributes to maintaining process accuracy—without operator intervention.

Improve Quality & Reduce Scrap

AutoComp continuously compensates for tool wear and process variation, helping manufacturers maintain tight tolerances over long production runs.

This enables:

  • Consistent part quality across batches
  • Reduced scrap and rework
  • Faster response to dimensional drift

By applying offsets automatically, AutoComp ensures that corrections happen immediately—before out-of-tolerance parts are produced.

Tool Wear Tracking & Intelligent Response

AutoComp not only applies offsets, but also tracks tool wear over time.

  • Log every compensation adjustment per tool
  • Monitor cumulative wear against defined thresholds
  • Alert operators when tools approach wear limits

When thresholds are exceeded, AutoComp can trigger automated responses such as calling a redundant tool or stopping the machine—helping maintain process integrity and prevent defects.

Data-Driven Traceability & Process Insight

All measurement and compensation activity is recorded with time-stamped data, creating a complete audit trail for quality control and compliance.

Manufacturers gain:

  • Full traceability of part measurements and adjustments
  • Real-time visibility into tool condition and process performance
  • Historical data for analysis and continuous improvement

This data-driven approach supports both immediate process control and long-term optimization.

From Measurement to Control

“AutoComp eliminates the gap between measurement and machining,” said Rob Caron. “It ensures that every measurement drives immediate action—maintaining accuracy and protecting the process.”

At Booth #134742, visitors will see AutoComp integrated into a fully automated production environment—demonstrating how real-time measurement feedback can drive consistent, high-quality machining results.
